The Peak vs The Valley

As an adventure guide, I constantly have participants that desire those mountaintop views. That breathtaking landscape that holds so much beauty and awe that it often times draws tears to the eye of the beholder. The adversity that one faces to reach the top often fades away once someone steps onto that peak. Its a powerful moment when one reaches their goal and it empowers individuals to see that they truly are capable of achieving anything they set their mind to. But, thats not what I am here to talk about in this post; where the true growth and empowerment lies is in the journey along the way.

The best way for us to see this reality is by looking at mountain ecology. At the top of the peak there is often no foliage or diversity in the landscape. It usually a pretty consistent environment with very little life. Where is the life you ask? It lies in the valleys. These biodiverse ecosystems are full of rivers, fauna and foliage that are thriving in a symbiotic relationship. These valleys are also where we find the most challenge as mountaineers. There is so much unknown in these regions of the mountain until you dive into the hike. Yes you can prepare and gain knowledge about what to anticipate but it isn’t until your boots step foot on that soil that you truly know what lies ahead of you. Weather conditions, trail damage, crossing paths with potentially dangerous animals, finding appropriate campsites; the list can go on and on when it comes to challenges one faces when reaching a summit. This is often times when individuals and groups find themselves disagreeing on how to achieve their mutual goals as well as pushing themselves in ways they never have before. The amount of grit that it takes to keep going and not give up is what attracts so many to pursue the field of mountaineering. The journey is long, exhausting and, at times, extremely difficult but as they get closer to the peak they unearth an inner warrior that is determined to not give up until the goal is reached.

This is exactly what we should emulate in our everyday lives. Yes we should strive to reach our goals but we should also be aware of what the journey does to and for us from start to finish. Growth doesn’t really happen when we are in a place of comfort and peace. Growth happens when we are in the valley of our lives; fighting for the end results, pushing ourselves outside of our comfort zones and embracing new awareness of our surroundings and ourselves. This where we learn adaptation, mindfulness, self discipline and love of self. This is the space where true magic lies. Achieving our goals have their own form of bliss when we reach them but we cannot lose sight of what we went through to get there or how incredible we are for making it to the top. Moments of struggle, hardship and adversity cannot be forgotten because, in those very moments, your personal power ignites. A climber by the name of J.B. Tribout says this, ”I think that drive and mental strength are the factors that distinguish ordinary from extraordinary achievements. It is not the physically strongest climbers who win, but rather the mentally strongest.” So I leave you with this question, do you want your life to be ordinary or extraordinary?

Heart Open, Soul Healed

Oh heart chakra, how you finally burst at the seams.
Shimmering and moving, a bright golden stream.
I always kept you on lock for fear of pain and neglect
For conditional love and mistreatment, I’d always detect and reject.
You always saw my truth and awareness that I wanted you free;
I didn’t always have the key to open up that knowing inside of me.
Bursting, beaming, thriving you are!
With such power and oneness, we will go so far!
I’m thankful for your patience as I embody your true meaning;
The light and abundance within us now gleaming.
I can longer be the same for this door is unlocked;
No longer the wall, no more putting up blocks.
Freedom, surrender, confidence and strength;
My heart is on fire to be quite frank.
I know I can show the true embodiment of love;
The most powerful integration of our essence above.
Some won’t understand, that’s okay; don’t worry, they just cannot see
This ever unfolding lotus that I sit upon thats so meant for me.
You all clearly see this light that’s shining through and through,
A big bright rainbow within and without, my truest of hues.

Leading With Love

Love is more than just an emotion of our hearts; love is the most powerful tool of our universal existence, the greatest gift of our higher selves. When we choose to lead with love, we are truly capable of flowing through life exactly as our souls intended us to, in harmony with one another. A great example of the power of love is through the biodiversity of ecosystems. An ecosystem is only as successful, resilient and abundant as the biodiversity within it. The laws of the natural world do not call for competition as much as it calls for cooperation. Darwin himself wrote about the laws of love and cooperation almost a hundred times throughout his study of the natural world whereas, he only mentioned the survival of the fittest a handful of times during some of his work. If an ecosystem becomes homogeneous, it runs the threat of destruction due to various issues, such as lack of resources and carrying capacity of the space, lack of predator or prey for the one species to thrive and remain in equilibrium, and the threat of disease or disaster wiping out the population of the single ruling species as a whole. Mother Earth knows how important mutual respect, love and appreciation is in order for an ecosystem to truly thrive. The flowers would not be successful without the bees. The woodpecker would not thrive without the trees. All species would not succeed without our sacred sun, moon cycles or waterways. All the species of our earth are part of something greater than just themselves and all the species of the earth must live in cohesion for the longterm success and resilience of the ecosystem as a whole. Symbiotic relationships are some of the most powerful partnerships of our planet.

If the natural world can innately act in a cooperative, trusting way why is it so hard for us as humans, a species of the natural world, to also embody this same flow of life? We've lost that connection over the years, especially in western society where conquest and competition reign supreme. No longer do most see the world as 'we' but rather see the world as 'me'. That is the danger of our hearts today; a conditioning to believe that one is better than another, one is stronger than another, one is wiser than another, one is more powerful than another. This my friends, is simply not the truth. Yes we are all different as individuals but that is exactly why we are all essential to the success of the whole. The male cannot compare themselves to the female. The artist cannot compare themselves to the scientist. The hunter cannot compare themselves to the gatherer. Each holds something the other doesn't. Each must see the worth in one another to be able to hold space for these diverse gifts to shine through. Diversity is about uplifting and nurturing the uniquenesses within one another, seeing the power of our own capabilities and knowing the importance of loving one another for their capabilities as well. The natural world innately embodies these lessons and we can innately embody them too through intentionally choosing love as our ruler each day. This lesson however, doesn't start with loving others but rather loving ourselves; for if we do not see our own worth and value we cannot hold space appropriately, uplifting the light and gifts of one another. Look in the mirror and tell yourself, "I am love and I am me. For the we to be, my light I must see." Until this transformation inside occurs, there is no way for love to truly blossom.

Time To Thrive

A wall was built around my heart
For fear of pain and falling apart.

I struggle to let go of what has happened thus far.
Not always so simple, just ask regulars at a bar.

Truly I know I must let it all go.
These pains I feel are saying, “it’s time to grow”

You beautiful angel, release those sweet tears.
No more room for doubt, anxiety and fears.

Emotions of the ego and wounded inner child;
The universe holds space for their teachings and trials.

I’m ready to receive the universal gifts that come
As I dance in the light and feel my heartbeat drum.

Shed, heal, embody; repeat.
Constant progression, what a divine treat!

I look in the mirror and see that inner warrior shine through;
The time is now for my dreams to come true.

My strength, resilience, wisdom and grace
Keep me moving forward at a nice, steady pace.

I adore this grand journey of self discovery.
For so long I concealed and suppressed the true me.

Giving, giving, giving. It’s what my heart knows best.
It’s time for me to receive, letting that giver have some rest.

The world can finally see my soul for all that it is;
A beaming, bright bundle of love, light and bliss!

Illumination of We

An abundance of bliss pours out of me now.
Embracing the light and the dark is the only way how.

My heart is so full of gratitude and joy;
A foundation of self love and respect that’s no longer destroyed.

Oh super blue blood moon how you light up the darkness;
Making us face what we need to and embrace the power we harness.

I sing for us all my soul’s song loud and proud.
Heart open, soul healed; a rhythmic, harmonious sound.

Each of us bring a blessed gift to this space.
A golden thread connecting me to you, the universe did lace.

The only way for our world to find true peace,
is to dust off the mirror and say, “Its starts with me!”

Awaken, ignite; activation complete.
Past, present and future; in the now it all meets.

“I love you. I accept you. I see you.” I say.
Unconditional love and gratitude is the only freakin way.

It’s true indeed, our world isn’t the same.
The lioness caught wind of her power, she can no longer be tamed.

Rise up and be strong, don’t get this all wrong.
You’ve had the power and knowing within all along.

The fire within never dies, its simply relit.
Believe in your journey and tell yourself, “I can do it!”

Grab your board and resilience, it’s time to ride
A cosmic wave that shifts us all; to new shores we arrive!

She Has Risen

My heart has felt weary, heavy and weak.
The pain inside makes it hard to speak.

As dark as night, is sometimes life
but it doesn’t last forever so why do we strife?

No matter the depth of my souls pain inside,
I know there’s always a gain from these wild, wild rides.

“Everything happens for a reason”, that’s what we are told.
That darkness however, creeps in like the cold.

The manipulator. Abuser. It’s unfair to see.
I see it in your glare, if not her then me.

No thank you. Not me. I’m so very done.
No more pawn in those games alluded as “fun”.

If you aren’t at you’re best, you simply can’t be
fluid, open, adaptive just as our deep blue sea.

Like a phoenix from the ashes, I’m ready to fight.
Wings bright and full, I’m finally taking flight!

This journey is worth it, there’s no doubt in my heart.
Shedding, healing, embodying; it’s one hell of a start.

I stand here now, the strongest me yet.
The Warrior, The Goddess; ready to face whatever comes next.

The Goddess Within

I am mountain.
I am sea.
I let go of what no longer serves me.

No matter how brutal the storm,
I will always embody my truest form.

With resilience and flow,
I let it all go, go, go.

My light inside burns so bright,
Just as The Sun rising from night.

We can all break free,
Once we say, “No more chains bound to me.”

I will never give up this journey
of our collective self discovery.

It’s time to be my best me,
for the we to finally be.

Bless it be that now is our time,
Manifesting a new paradigm.
